A View from the 39th Floor: 10 Years of Proteus

Last week, on the 39th floor of Indianapolis’ Salesforce Tower, we hosted an open‑house marking Proteus’s 10th anniversary – and christening our new downtown headquarters. With sweeping views of the city skyline, signature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and music, the event was part open house, part reunion, and part gratitude tour.

Ten Years, Four Friends, One Idea

Back in 2015, Sean Burke, Hamish Cohen, Jon Mattingly, and I shared a vision: to build a litigator‑led eDiscovery firm that operated more as a strategic partner than as a vendor. We refer to ourselves internally as the “anti-vendor” because we don’t want to be a vendor. We wanted to be the kind of partner we would want on our own litigation teams – practical, responsive, thoughtful, and relentlessly transparent.

That idea is still our compass. And standing beside my co-founders and longtime friends at the event, it struck me how far that idea has carried us – and how grateful I am to have taken that journey with this crew. At the event, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of gratitude. Their insight and dedication have shaped every milestone we’ve achieved. I’m proud to have raised a glass to them and the broader Proteus family – our folks who live our values every day and our clients who've grown with us.

Looking Ahead

I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating: the best part of Proteus isn’t the tech or the tower, it’s the people. Our team is sharp, driven, and just the right amount of quirky. Our clients challenge us, trust us, and make us better. And the legal community here in Indy continues to be an incredible place to build something meaningful. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the people who joined us last week, especially our families and clients who believe in our mission.

As we celebrate ten years, remember: we’re not resting. We’re innovating, scaling, adapting, and building toward our next decade because the 39th floor isn’t just a great view, it’s a symbol of where Proteus has come from, where we are today, and where we’re going. It was a celebration of what we’ve built and of the people who’ve helped us build it.

So here’s to the first ten years – and to the next chapter.
