I’ve been struggling to find the right words for this post but it felt important to acknowledge that in August, we as an eDiscovery and legal community lost one of our dear friends when the wonderful and incandescent Kaylee Walstad passed away.
Kaylee was a force of nature, and she was one of the very first people I met back when I joined the industry in 2016.
At the time, I was beginning to find my footing in this industry, and Kaylee quickly became one of those people I turned to, whether I was launching something new, changing jobs, or just excited about an idea. She was usually my first call.
And perhaps many people have had a similar experience meeting her. She had this great way of pulling you in and making you feel seen and valued, and somehow instantly part of something bigger than yourself.
When COVID hit and the world locked down, Proteus created a podcast, eDiscovery After Hours, as a way to stay connected with each other. And of course, then too, Kaylee was the first call. She showed up with her trademark energy and warmth.
Kaylee was responsible for many things, but importantly, she created space for real relationships. If you were part of a panel, a project, or a webinar where Kaylee was involved, she was there to get you pumped up.
It’s hard to imagine our community without her, and my heart goes out to her family and to everyone feeling the weight of her absence.
In honor of her memory, we’re re-releasing that first eDiscovery After Hours episode with Kaylee. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch or listen. Watch the episode here.
We miss you, Kaylee. Thank you for everything.
